WHO SHOULD ATTEND? All general education teachers in grades 4 through 12 who teach ELA, Social Studies, Science and other content areas that require academic literacy. Instructional leaders including administrators, specialists, ELD teachers, and T.O.S.A.s are encouraged to attend with general education teacher teams.

CALIFORNIA CONNECTIONS  Participants collaborate to apply asset-oriented pedagogy (EL Road Map Principle One) to ensure intellectual quality and meaningful access (EL Road Map Principal Two) to the grade-level expectations detailed in the CA Common Core State Standards for ELA and Literacy in History/Social Studies and Technical Subjects, and the aligned CA ELD standards.

BOOK-TO-ACTION This institute helps teachers apply the mindsets and pedagogy of Tonya’s Bestselling Book EL Excellence Every Day to high-level core teaching.  It is recommend, not required, that participants buy the book before the institute and read the first chapter. Bring it to make powerful connections in and beyond the institute.
